About Meadowbrook Memories

Preserving the stories, achievements and shared experiences that connect the Meadowbrook High School community across generations.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PROJECT

More than a podcast. A living record of Meadowbrook.

Meadowbrook Memories began in January 2022 as an effort to document the sporting achievements of Meadowbrook High School and the people who helped make them possible. What started with conversations about a remarkable period in the school's sporting history quickly grew into something broader.

Today, Meadowbrook Memories is a platform for preserving history, reconnecting alumni, celebrating accomplishment and passing the school's stories on to future generations. Through podcasts, alumni stories, historical features, photographs, news and community contributions, it brings together memories from Meadowbrook's earliest generations through to more recent graduates.

At its heart is a simple idea: the people who lived Meadowbrook's history should have a place to tell it, and the generations that follow should have a place to find it.

FOUNDER & HOST

Glaister “Lance” Prince

“Glaister, Lance, Prince or Jelly — any of those names will do!”

Glaister “Lance” Prince is the creator and host of Meadowbrook Memories. His connection with Meadowbrook is deeply personal: members of his family attended the school before him, and he himself was a student from 1974 to 1982.

Sport became an important part of that Meadowbrook journey. He was a member of the school's first team to reach a competitive sporting final in 1977, played on the 1980 Sunlight Cup semifinal team, and in 1982 captained the side that defeated Calabar in the Sunlight Cup — a breakthrough he remembers as helping to change the school's sporting identity.

The idea for Meadowbrook Memories took shape years later after a discussion in an alumni chat group reminded him how easily important parts of the school's history could be forgotten, misunderstood or lost. His first aim was simply to reconnect with former teammates and document their experiences. As the conversations grew, so did the purpose.

The project expanded beyond the sporting years to embrace the wider Meadowbrook community — the people who built the foundation, those who carried the torch and those who continue the legacy today.

WHY IT MATTERS

Preserving a legacy for future generations

For Lance, recording Meadowbrook's history is not simply an exercise in nostalgia. It is a way of ensuring that the achievements, sacrifices and experiences of earlier generations remain available to those who come after them.

That same purpose also shaped his self-published book, The Starlings Surprise, which grew from his desire to preserve the story of Meadowbrook's historic sporting achievements. Together, the book, the podcast and the wider Meadowbrook Memories project form part of a continuing effort to keep the school's heritage alive.

“If we do not tell our stories, who will? If we do not preserve our history, what will future generations have to remember?”

A story that belongs to the whole Meadowbrook community

Meadowbrook Memories continues to grow through the voices, photographs, recollections and achievements shared by alumni, educators, supporters and friends of the school.
